For the newly immigrated or visiting senior, these clubs can serve as their first contact with the Thornhill Jewish Community. It creates and provides a safe, social and educational program and place for seniors to go to. Many of the participants now experience decreased isolation, an increased sense of belonging and an opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge and wisdom.

Headed by Rabbi Meir Gitlin of Chabad Lubavitch of Markham, the club provides a social setting for a learning and discussion groups, followed by an enjoyable and delicious brunch.

Both the Senior Men’s Club and the Senior Women’s Club meet at Chabad Lubavitch of Markham at 83 Green Lane. The Senior Men meet every Friday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and the Senior Women meet every Wednesday from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.

Weekly topics include discussions on Jewish law, current events, politics, Talmud, Kabbalah, Holiday, Torah insights and traditions… and lots of humour.

The Senior's Clubs offers a number of other social activities and are planning to expand their programming over the coming year. Please contact our office for further detail.

It is safe to say that loneliness is one of the greatest problems of living alone for women as well as men. If you know of a senior looking for friendship and learning, or if you can provide transportation for a senior to and from the club, call 905-886-0420 x 223 for more information.
