Yellow Candle Project Banner.png

We hope that you will join with the other members of Chabad of Markham and your family on Sunday, April 23, 2017, the evening before Yom HaShoah, and light a Yellow Candle (if you would like to get one, please call the office 905.886.0420). We light the candle in our homes in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The act of kindling this flame and reading the enclosed dedication, can be a moving ritual to remind us of what happened to our people not so long ago. Placing the candle in your window is a way to help remind the community. This moment can also be an appropriate opportunity to discuss the Holocaust with your children.

It is our hope that the observance of Yom HaShoah, centered on the lighting of a Yellow Candle, will become an annual event in your home and in the home of every member of our congregation. Many families have already made this commemoration an important day in their Jewish calendar.

We ask that you help to underwrite the cost of this project. Funds received over and above our program cost will go directly to support Holocaust Education Week and Outreach Programs at our Shul, which can help to ensure the future of our people. We would ask that you consider gifts in multiples of $18. The number 18 is chai, which means life.

By remembering, by doing our part to insure our future, we celebrate the ongoing life of our people, even as we memorialize those who perished in the Shoah. We welcome and appreciate your support of our efforts in this Shoah commemoration and our ongoing education programs.

We hope that you and your family will participate on Sunday, April 23, 2017, in this small but meaningful project. NEVER FORGET!

Yes! I wold like to contribute to the Yellow Candle Project
