SENIOR MEN & WOMEN’S CLUB
AT CHABAD LUBAVITCH OF MARKHAM
Two of the synagogues oldest and longest continually running programs are the Chabad Senior Men and Senior Women clubs. The Chabad Senior Men’s Club began in 1997. One year later the Chabad Senior Women’s Club was formed. Both the men’s and women’s clubs were formed with just a handful of people to start. It didn’t take long for the groups to grow to what they are now – a steady 20-30 participants each week.
For the newly immigrated or visiting senior, these clubs can serve as their first contact with the Thornhill Jewish Community. It creates and provides a safe, social and educational program and place for seniors to go to. Many of the participants now experience decreased isolation, an increased sense of belonging and an opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge and wisdom.
Headed by Rabbi Meir Gitlin of Chabad Lubavitch of Markham, the club provides a social setting for a learning and discussion group, followed by an enjoyable and delicious brunch.
Both the Senior Men’s Club and the Senior Women’s Club meet at Chabad Lubavitch of Markham at 83 Green Lane. The Senior Men meet every Friday from 10 am – 12 pm and the Senior Women meet every Wednesday from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.
Weekly topics include discussions on Jewish law, current events, politics, Talmud, Kabbalah, Holiday, Torah insights and traditions… and lots of humour.

It is safe to say that loneliness is one of the greatest problems of living alone for women as well as men. If you know of a senior looking for friendship and learning, or if you can provide transportation for a senior to and from the club, call 905-886-0420 x223 for more information.
